Hairdressers Arnold Nottingham

Sep 2010 If you are looking for good hairdressers, Arnold, Nottingham has many salons. But with all the choice on offer how do you know you will get a good stylist and how do you know what training they have been through?

For someone who wants to become a hairdresser there is more than one training route that they can take. They may choose to go to college, in which case they can contact their local further education college to find out the range of courses that they offer. If they are lucky enough to have a specialist hairdressing college in their area then is going to be the best option, the teachers there will be the very best and will be able to impart their expert knowledge to the student along with the proper training.

Hairdressing requires more training than many people may think. To qualify and gain a National Vocational Qualification at level 2 requires two years of training with a college. While they are doing this can work part time at a local salon to gain some hands on experience. Although during year 1 they may not be able to do everything they want, just being there and being able to observe the professionals gives them invaluable experience. Once they are into year two of their training they are able to work on paying clients. Salons usually offer a reduced rate to clients if they are to get their hair done by a trainee.

Unlike other courses, an NVQ consists of no exam but a series of assessments as the student progresses through their learning. This gives the reassurance that they are capable of carrying out the work, with each unit consisting of a new technique for them to learn.

An alternative is to take an apprenticeship. The advantage here is the trainee will be earning a salary while they are learning. For the young person who does not require a massive income this can be the best option, they will at least be earning an income while they train.

Either of these training routes will lead to the same goal. The exception is if they want to become a mobile hairdresser, where it is more ideal to study the NVQ to level 3 to learn additional techniques and become fully competent. When self employed they will be accountable only to the client. Self employment brings the necessity to retain a loyal customer base. Once they have done the initial hard work of building up a client list they need to do everything they can to keep their customers. If they are very good their clients, when asked by a friend or family member to recommend a good hairdresser, will nominate them. Word of mouth is the best way for them to build a client base.
